RSVPHistorical exhibition focusing on Friedel Dzubas's rare A Black Series (1960–1962), showcasing dark, achromatic canvases created after his return to Berlin. About Nathalie Karg Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming historical exhibition focusing on Friedel Dzubas's rare A Black Series (1960–1962). Continuing our commitment to focused historical surveys—including past presentations of Huguette Caland's Silent Letters (2016), Al Held's Paris Years 1951–1959, Mario Schifano's Television Paintings (2019), and Augustin Fernández's Constructed Tensions—this exhibition highlights a pivotal moment in Dzubas's career. Created following a transformative return to Berlin after twenty years in the U.S., these dark, achromatic canvases step away from Dzubas's vibrant colorist roots. Utilizing diluted black and gray paint on unprimed canvas, the works feature energetic scribbles, calligraphic forms, and evocative washes. Ranging from tondos to expansive fields, the series captures profound personal and historical tension through titles evoking the Passion, memory, and personal narrative.
