RSVPThe Lithuanian National Museum of Art offers a unique opportunity to meet a work of art under special conditions – in the Room of a Masterpiece, where the work of art is given an opportunity to present itself and give a performance, not unlike an actor, personally to a single visitor. About Visitors will once again be able to encounter works by Frans Hals, the renowned 17th-century Dutch portraitist, in solitude: his depictions of St Luke and St Matthew, brought from Ukraine. The works attracted considerable interest when they were exhibited here at the Radvila Palace Museum of Art two years ago. An interdisciplinary team of art historians and artists created the Masterpiece Room to offer a distinctive museum experience. Audiovisual and multimedia elements place the paintings in context, while the room allows visitors to experience them personally, free from outside sounds, images and other visitors. The saints’ portraits intrigue through Hals’s characteristic swift, dynamic brushwork and their unusual presentation, as well as through details that are not apparent at first glance.
