RegisterA collection of laser visible transmission and white light reflection works by Chicago-based artist Richard Bruck. About Working with light shows how we are often subject to misperceptions about our physical existence. The imagery in Breathe In, Breathe Out is driven by a desire to see through these assumptions about materiality and transcend to a clearer vision of reality. Bruck asks these questions through a series of laser visible and white light holograms, which, suspended in space, transport the viewer into a new plane of literal and emotional depth. Using portraiture, abstraction and sculpture, this exhibition forms the fabric of light into space, challenging the binary between substance and ephemerality. About the Studio Holographic Studios is the only gallery, laboratory, and education center of Holography in New York and the longest running space of its kind in the world. Since 1979, it has operated at the intersection of contemporary art and science, preserving and innovating this incredible and endangered medium. Breathe in, Breathe Out is curated by Sy Rivers, who is at the helm of this new iteration of Holographic Studios, ushering the medium to the forefront of the contemporary art world. About the Artist Richard Bruck (b.1956) has a background in professional photography and photojournalism and began working in holography in 1981 at the School of Fine Arts Research and Museum of Holography. In the years since, he has exhibited his personal work throughout the Midwest and East Coast and taught holography at Columbia College for 27 years. Mr. Bruck built his own laboratory and company which produces many facets of holography including fine art, research and development, industrial applications, commercial production, and education. Along with producing his own work, he has collaborated with and produced holograms for other artists in the field, notably Richard Kline, Anait Stephens, Douglas Tyler, and Harriet Casdin-Silver, some of which is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
