About event

Plotting with Julia Crouch How do you shape a story? This masterclass takes a look at the thinking behind constructing a plot and takes it forward into practical techniques and processes. By the end of the day you will have the draft of a brand new plot and you’ll also take away lots of ideas and tools for working on your current projects. Julia Crouch is the author of ten internationally published novels. She coined the term Domestic Noir to describe her own particular sub-genre of psychological thriller. She came to fiction through a series of callings that took in theatre directing, playwriting, screenwriting, double-entry bookkeeping, teaching, graphic and website design and children’s book writing and illustration. Julia has been an RLF Fellow and Visiting Fellow on the UEA MA Creative Writing Crime Fiction and teaches online for Faber Academy and the National Centre for Writing, as well as mentoring individual clients. She regularly chairs book events at festivals and gives one-off lectures and master classes. The session will be held at the Jubilee Library in Brighton and will run from 10:15-16:15 with an hour for lunch. The venue is fully accessible, near the train station and bus routes and with plenty of options for lunch (including bringing your own). If you have any specific needs to enable you to access the workshop, please do Contact Cathy Hayward - cathy@creativewritingprogramme.org.uk The workshop is part of a series of one-day masterclasses held in the Easter and summer holidays. They are open to existing students on the Creative Writing Programme and other writers looking to improve specific areas of their writing craft.
