About event

On Thursday, October 08, at 6 PM, we invite you to the opening of the exhibition Gale-Spells by the artist Dainius Liškevičius at Meno parkas Gallery (Rotušės Sq. 27, Kaunas). An oracle in the form of an owl: “The forest cannot be separated from the trees!” This exhibition is about a distant future that may already be adjacent. As civilisation expands and a materialist understanding of the world becomes increasingly dominant, Lithuania’s landscape is changing as well. Reckless deforestation is leading towards an unpredictable future, approaching in forms we are not yet able to comprehend or recognise. The exhibition presents Dainius Liškevičius’s project “PRAUŽ-keikimai” – a distinctive posthumanist vision that can be observed from the outside, allowing its first prophetic signs to be read. This ongoing project (begun in 2020) is linked to a homestead in an isolated rural setting, surrounded by areas of intensively logged forests. The cleared forests create a sense of isolation and the post-apocalyptic illusion of an island, simulating physical escape or an illusory slowing of existence. Central to the project is the story of an owl that used to visit this place. After appearing several times, the owl disappeared once again... The disappearance and destruction of forests is the central leitmotif of the exhibition, within which new letters, messages, and perhaps warnings from the owl oracle will be revealed – messages that will still need to be deciphered. The exhibition also includes other works – the Bone Letter Portal, as well as artefacts that expand this multilayered narrative, in which personal stories and real events become intertwined with creative actions. This place prompts to seek contact with oneself and to accept this as an inevitable fate – something the owl, now unlikely to return, may have been trying to communicate. P. S. “The forest is one of Lithuania’s principal natural resources, contributing to the welfare of the state and its citizens, safeguarding the stability of the landscape and the quality of the environment, and managed according to the principles of continuous and multipurpose use, while ensuring a diversity of forms of ownership.” (Law on Forests of the Republic of Lithuania, No. I-671, 22 November 1994) The exhibition is part of Meno Parkas Gallery‘s project “Fracture”. The project is financed by the Lithuanian Council for Culture . Read more Toggle Multi-disciplinary Installation
