Devised World Creation with Diana Brown

This workshop invites participants to engage in the imaginative and collaborative craft of building entire worlds from the ground up Devised World Creation with Diana Brown Diana is bringing two workshops to LIF 2026. While each can be taken independently, we recommend booking both for a complete experience, as they are designed to complement and build upon one another.​ This workshop invites participants to engage in the imaginative and collaborative craft of building entire worlds from the ground up—worlds rich in texture, logic, and possibility. Through structured improvisation, ensemble devising, and character exploration, we will examine how the architecture of an invented world shapes the behaviors, relationships, and narratives that arise within it. Participants will: ​ Investigate methods of world generation, considering how geography, social systems, and unspoken rules inform dramatic context. Populate these worlds with multidimensional, delightfully flawed characters, each driven by distinct desires, contradictions, and comic potential. Devise and interrogate the interconnected relationships and histories that bring the ensemble’s creation to life. ​By the workshop’s end, participants will have collaboratively forged a vibrant dramatic ecosystem—a living, breathing setting where humor and humanity collide. This work serves as a foundation for further devised theatre projects, ensemble creation, or long-form improvisational storytelling.
