RSVPGallery FIFTY ONE presents EAST LOS, a new photographic series by Stig De Block exploring the people, places, and everyday realities of East Los Angeles beyond the lowrider community. About Gallery FIFTY ONE is pleased to present EAST LOS, a new photographic series by Stig De Block, marking his first solo exhibition at the gallery, on view from 28 November 2026 to 6 February 2027. Following his first series, BACK TO BACK, in which Belgian photographer Stig De Block travelled repeatedly to Los Angeles to document the lowrider community, EAST LOS shifts the focus towards the people, places, and everyday realities that shape East Los Angeles. In BACK TO BACK, Stig De Block explored Sunday Funday, a cultural gathering where Latin and Black communities come together through their shared passion for lowrider cars, transforming parking lots and boulevards into vibrant spaces of celebration, connection, and belonging. With EAST LOS, Stig De Block moves beyond the car competitions to explore the world that surrounds them. Through street textures, overlooked details, and intimate portraits, he turns his attention to the urban landscape and the lives unfolding within it. His photographs reveal a place shaped by history, family, faith, and migration, where personal narratives and collective memories are deeply intertwined with the streets and neighbourhoods of East Los Angeles. Rather than seeking to define the Eastside through a single perspective, EAST LOS offers a more intimate and layered encounter with the area. The series captures its complexities, contrasts, and ongoing transformations, revealing a community whose identity is continually shaped by the people who inhabit it and the stories embedded in its landscape. The book EAST LOS will officially launch at Paris Photo on 12 November 2026. It also brings together poems by Luis J. Rodriguez, a very important figure in Chicano literature, East Los Angeles culture, and community activism, known for his poetry, writing, and advocacy for marginalized communities.
