Holdfast and HartWood

An exhibition of paintings, object-poems, print and text by artists Lisa Matthews & Melanie Ashby About A holdfast anchors kelp to the seabed through rough and calm seas. Heartwood is the strong inner core of a tree, supporting it through high winds and fine days. In Holdfast / Hartwood, Lisa Matthews, a poet crossing into visual and sculptural practice, and Melanie Ashby, an artist working in paint and printmaking, draw on and transform these natural structures as ways of thinking about what anchors us, what sustains us, and how we navigate grief and uncertainty. Moving between the real and imagined, both artists turn to the natural world as a space for reflection and transformation. Forests, water, bodies and creatures suggest an inner landscape in which the familiar can become strange, symbolic and dreamlike. *** Bollington is a gorgeous village in the Cheshire Peaks - a sweet day out - cafes - The Green, Waterside are open; canal and hill walks recommended.
