About We are pleased to present Winter Finds Spring , Jinyong Park’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. Bringing together new paintings produced over the past winter, the exhibition presents Park’s ongoing investigation into the relationship between language and experience. Winter Finds Spring reflects Park’s sustained engagement with the cyclical nature of everyday existence. Within this framework, language operates not merely as a descriptive tool but as a formative structure through which experience is perceived—shaped by semantics, etymology, symbols, and metaphor. Park extends this inquiry through memory and imagination, as well as through the physical and emotional dimensions that accompany them. At times, this process foregrounds the instability, slippage, and fluidity inherent in linguistic systems. These invisible dynamics are articulated through carefully calibrated geometric elements—points, angles, curves, and planes—that function analogously to musical notation or phonetic systems. This attentiveness extends to the artist’s choice of subject matter. Winter—the coldest and darkest season—is characterised by reduced daylight, heightened precipitation, and the dormancy or hibernation of plant and animal life. In recent years, Park has worked in her garden studio, closely observing these seasonal shifts and integrating their temporal cycles into her practice. Paintings such as The Landers, Nimbus, Winter Solstice, and A Lunar Day exemplify the diaristic dimension of her work, registering time as both a material and conceptual presence. The exhibition comprises (twelve?) new small-scale paintings that invite close viewing and sustained attention. Within their intimate formats, visual elements are meticulously positioned, repeating and recombining across a structured geometric hierarchy. Each work serves as a hieroglyphic translation of the artist’s sensitivity to the day-to-day, through which she continues to expand her cohesive visual constellations. Jinyong Park (°1990) lives and works in London. Read more Toggle Painting
