RSVPNew York-based abstract painter Mira Valencia's first solo exhibition in New York City. Valencia continues her personal exploration of color, line, and space informed by both Color Field Theory and Lyrical Abstraction. About MIRA VALENCIA Between The Lines : A Solo Exhibition Exhibition Dates: October 28 - November 14, 2026 OPENING RECEPTION: WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 28 | 6-8 PM Conversation with Mira Valencia on her Work and Solo Exhibition: November 4 | 6:30 PM Press Release: Lichtundfire is pleased to announce and welcome all to the Opening Reception of Between The Lines , an exhibition of abstract paintings by New York-based artist Mira Valencia and her first solo exhibition in New York City. With this exhibition, Valencia continues her personal exploration of color, line, and space informed by both Color Field Theory and Lyrical Abstraction. Elongated canvases support what we perceive at first glance as subtle, waving lines, each comprised of many hues, achieved with pigments applied in a soft, often muted palette, running from north to south or east to west. If one lingers, however, the lines break up into minuscule color fields of pigments, seemingly hovering over the canvas’ surface. Mira Valencia has always been fascinated by how lines inform and determine space while simultaneously requiring careful observation. In her words, “ I am drawn to ambiguity and subtlety, to the infinite range of unnamed feelings, states, colors, shapes, and experiences that resist precise definition. To me, there is a particular pleasure in discovering what is not immediately visible…” Originally from Argentina, her vocabulary is rooted in a New York tradition where formalism meets lyrical abstraction, and where Abstract Expressionism reaches into Color Field and Minimalism without losing one another. We are thinking of Rothko and his bleeding, oscillating hues, of Clifford Still, as the forebear of what later became more prominent, paint and drips moving north to south, as it is in the work by Pat Steir, and of the abundance of lines, oscillating, trembling, waving and weaving, prominent in the work by Sol LeWitt. Valencia’s work interconnects with the aforementioned movements in manifold ways: it relates consciously and securely while boldly probing, testing, and finding her own way. Informed by a pictorial tradition, Valencia’s relationship with the viewer is confidently her own. She compels the viewer to look again, closely, slowly, to investigate color and space; and, above all, to discover what is untold and can be experienced between the lines. Born and raised in Argentina, Mira Valencia studied Ceramics, Sculpture, and Graphic and Industrial Design in Argentina. She lived in 6 countries, notably Panama, where she exhibited extensively and where her work was added to many local collections, including the Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition to Panama, she participated in exhibitions in Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and more recently, the US, where she studied at the Art Students League in New York City with Pat Lipsky.
