Opening Reception for Undercurrent

About Dallas, TX | Laura Rathe Fine Art is pleased to announce Undercurrent, a solo exhibition featuring new works by Toronto-based painter Janna Watson. The opening reception will take place on May 9, 2026 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Dallas Design District location. LRFA Dallas looks forward to welcoming Janna to Dallas for the first time. This opening coincides with the release of Janna’s first monograph, Undercurrent, and the reception will include a book signing at 5:00 and an artist talk at 5:30. Undercurrent presents a new body of work by Janna Watson. Her signature language of abstraction begets compositions that balance spontaneity and structure. Watson translates fleeting sensations into complex fields of color and motion. Her purposeful clusters and gestural strokes evoke a sense of delicate abundance, where soft, atmospheric tones are interwoven with bursts of saturated hues. Watson’s practice is rooted in intuition, allowing each painting to unfold organically. Paint becomes an active agent within the work… layered, pushed, and pulled across the surface in gestural movements that build intricate dimensionality. Recurring circular and radiating forms allude to solar and lunar cycles, mirroring that interior experience to the gravitation of the cosmos. “Undercurrent examines the unconscious as a subterranean site of transformation and poetic force.
