About event

One-day intensive with David Glass exploring presence, gesture, and physical theatre tools to awaken creativity and focus for performance. David Glass – One-Day Physical Theatre Workshop Alchemy of the Extraordinary: Presence, Practice & Play David Glass will lead an intensive one-day Physical Theatre Workshop, offering participants a direct introduction to his internationally recognised practice and 45+ years of ensemble research. Rooted in the principles of Alchemy of the Extraordinary, the workshop lays out a clear and rigorous framework for physical training, introducing participants to: • Presence & Focus – awakening attention, responsiveness, and embodied awareness • Élan – the dynamic life-force within action • The Fundamental Grammar of Gesture – impulse, journey, fixed point, and emotional clarity • Provocation & Evocation – how the performer generates and shapes meaning • The Navajo University Learning Circle – a shared reflective structure integrating experience and insight This introduction enables participants to focus and deepen their existing training through David’s universal and embodied approach to theatre — an approach that has influenced generations of artists internationally. About the teacher David Glass is a theatre director, performer, and teacher, and the founder and Artistic Director of the David Glass Ensemble. He has been a pioneer of physical and ensemble theatre in the UK and internationally. He is without doubt one of the most influential physical theatre practitioners of the past 50 years. David has directed and devised productions across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, and has led large-scale collaborative projects with professional artists, young people, and communities. His practice has been adopted in partnerships with cultural institutions, schools, universities, and international organisations, and has influenced generations of performers and educators. Testimonials “Inspired by what you and the young people are doing — a terrific, urgent piece.” — Mark Rylance “David Glass’s Creative Practice is a unique and courageous exploration of what it means to be human.” — Peter Brook “One of the great teachers and artists of our time — marrying deep intellect with the playful spirit of a child.” — Amit Lahav, Artistic Director, Gecko “David Glass is one of the great pioneers and makers.” — Simon McBurney, Director, Complicité
