Planet Barnsley

Planet Barnsley is the first solo exhibition by Cara Proud, using immersive digital worlds to reimagine the town's identity, technology, and future possibilities. About A survivor of the future clambered for spare parts to assemble their own independent computer. Technology in their world is designed to extract as much information, energy, and money as possible. From scrap materials, they built a computer that functions removed from society: a cyberdeck. Within it they designed a digital world intended to call those in the past to action, warning them not to repeat the mistakes of their reality. Their creation evolved into a utopian landscape of how technology used responsibly can augment our society and not destroy it. Barnsley born artist Cara Proud connects literature and art through immersive, interactive experiences. She combines her interest in speculative science fiction and extended reality to create interdisciplinary art games. Planet Barnsley investigates how post‑industrial identity and digital transformation in Barnsley Town Centre can be recreated as a Moebius-inspired 3D landscape and installation. By re‑envisioning Barnsley, she wishes to motivate the community she grew up in to reclaim technological advancements.
