Poiana Mărului: Sites of the Image / Locuri ale imaginii

The exhibition offers a new perspective on the context in which a group of artists worked in Poiana Mărului over the course of three decades, beginning in the 1960s. About Among them were Horia Bernea, Ion Dumitriu, Teodor Rusu, Șerban Epure, Letiția Bucur, Teodor Morar, Maria Meșteru, Mircea Milcovici. Without coalescing into a programmatic movement, they regularly returned to the village located near Zărnești, initially seeking to distance themselves from an artistic system perceived as restrictive both aesthetically and ideologically. Their interest in working in nature and in the world of rural life endured over time, generating representational and stylistic patterns that became landmarks in the history of art in Romania. The exhibition brings together artworks, as well as previously unseen documents and photographs, creating a rich and nuanced narrative that seeks to contextualize this phenomenon through an extensive body of visual material.
