RSVPThis solo exhibition explores the intersection of play, collective architecture and acoustic design About Onamatopia is a new exhibition of ongoing research by Yuri Suzuki into the combination of sound, structure and landscape inspired by amusement parks, world fairs and expos. The exhibition features five dioramas, which are prototypes for experimental acoustic and spatial experiences. Playing with the iconic forms of a roller-coaster, a ferris wheel, dodgems, a helter-skelter and a sonic carousel, sound itself becomes the structure. Formed from colourful pipes, vertical funnels and horns, each attraction has its own sound-track. Visitors will be able to explore the project’s evolution through physical design models and prototype sound-tracks, alongside reference material from Suzuki’s archive, including a 2001 special 40th anniversary map of Disney World and a map of Margate by Abäke, which blurs fact and fantasy and was produced as part of its 2011 residency at Turner Contemporary.
