RegisterMultimedia exhibition about the interspecies kinship, and notions of mortality, spirituality and somatic presence
PV: 15th May 6 - 9pm Closing Film Screening and Performance: 20th May 6 – 9pm with guest artist: Lizzie Mackenzie The Nunnery Gallery is pleased to present Sentient Ground , the most substantial solo exhibition to date by British artist Diana Krilova (b. Riga, 1978). Working across painting and sculpture, this extraordinary body of work has developed out of extended periods of residential field-research in Europe and Inner Asia since 2021. It is a deeply personal, poignant exploration of the expansive landscape in the Siberian Steppes, the interspecies kinship that has co-evolved between humans and horses across millennia, and notions of mortality, spirituality and somatic presence. The exhibition is structured thematically across two galleries: The Chapel; and Meeting Room. The Chapel is a site of reflection, tracing a journey across time and place, from Spain to Siberia, with three interconnected series: Tyva ; Pottokas ; and Cancer . Meeting Room grounds the story in the now, situating the exhibition in the artist’s own habitat in rural Sussex, from where she has brought this exhibition into being. It is anchored to a place of historical and personal significance: the woodland of Ashdown Forest, through which she traces familiar pathways in the company of her dogs.
