RSVPWith no winners, losers, or fixed rules, play becomes a practice of genuine encounter. Email lynn@dallasclaycollective.com to schedule a viewing Location: Dallas Clay Collective 10120 Cayuga Dr #106, Dallas, TX 75228 Artists: Francisco Josue Alvarado Araujo, Jessica Bell, CALCIUM (SV Randall & Laura Neal), JJ Jalowiec, Ryan Semegran, Chukwudi Ukonne We enter a space where the materials invoke memories of early childhood. The primary colors, salty scent, and the malleable world building of our still untethered imaginations. The exhibition title borrows its name from the label on the children’s modeling clay, “nontoxic” and insists with a smile and a steady gaze, that the harmless can still be dangerous in the hands of those who can imagine a better world. What is given: A four-pack of Play-Doh in assorted colors, up to 5 additional materials of the participants choosing, and an open invitation to invite a collaborator. From this deliberately constrained yet open set of guidelines an invitation to play unfolds across the borders of hard fast rules. This mode of play rejects conquest, no winners or losers, no rules hardened into law. That version of play has too often mirrored imperial arrogance and the perception that fixes others into subordinate forms. Instead, we practice a loving playfulness: an openness to surprise, a willingness to be a fool, a lightness of self-importance that makes a genuine encounter possible.
