About event

Our Full Festival Pass provides access to all headline recitals, masterclasses, and more! Day 1: Carl Loewe Day , featuring pianist Malcolm Martineau and baritone James Newby in The Shipping Forecast Former BBC New Generation Artist, baritone James Newby makes a welcome return to SongEasel with accompanist Malcolm Martineau for an imaginatively curated sea-themed programme from two star performers. The recital will feature anniversary composer Carl Loewe, who lived much of his life in the coastal city of Stettin (now Szczecin, Poland), alongside songs from Elgar’s Sea Pictures, and songs by Schubert, Duparc, Rachmaninov and Kurt Weill. Day 2: Day of Spanish Song , featuring Lorena Paz Nieto in Mujeres ¡PRESENTES! Star Spanish soprano Lorena Paz Nieto returns to SongEasel with a wonderful programme featuring songs by Spanish and Latin American women composers. Together with British-Hispanic pianist Helen Glaisher-Hernández, their programme brings to life these hidden gems, including works by Teresa Carreño, Pauline Viardot and Alicia de Larrocha for a recital that promised to be both enlightening and uplifting. Day 3: Day of Dreams , with our first ever Song Exchange ! The Day of Dreams concludes with our first ever Song Exchange, combining the haunting melodies of Persian song with the intimate Lied tradition, woven together with live cello improvisations. The recital features Kian Ravaei’s Gulistan alongside an evocative new commission from Composer in Residence, Emily Hazrati, paired with works by Schubert, Fauré and both Gustav and Alma Mahler. Inspired by the 14th-century poet Hafiz’s utopian visions of harmony and Goethe’s stirring response, his West-Eastern Divan, pianist Jocelyn Freeman curates a thoughtfully interwoven programme with emerging artists for an heart-warming culmination to our 2026 Festival. PLUS Young Artist masterclasses each day from 12-4:30pm with pianist Roger Vignoles, tenor James Gilchrist, and Professor Richard Stokes! Day 4: Young Artist Spotlight Our final day celebrates the next generation of performers, as the 2026 cohort presents a lunchtime concert at 12 noon in St Laurence Church, Catford, followed by our much-loved informal Lieder Lounge in the Loft at Rocketvan. Join us to support these exciting young artists and connect with the future of song. ' Such good fun - thank you for putting this on! ' Audience member, June 2024 Ticket prices £50 £40 concessions
