Technophobes

A pop-up exhibition featuring local and UK artists, replacing our phones with tiny canvases, and returning to the analogue world. About WHAT IS THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS PROJECT? "Almost everybody uses a smartphone, so I thought it would be fun to challenge people to create an artwork that is the same size and shape as their phone, but made of canvas, and taking us away from the screen, as a kind of digital detox. Our experience of each other and of art, has become flat, small and owned by big tech. This is also a protest against AI art – AI can copy photos but it can’t create these artworks – every artist has made something completely unique, and handcrafting is a contrast with the environmentally-destructive data centres being built." - Anna Appleby, curator Read more Toggle Installation Mixed media Painting Crafts
