About event

When the everyday exceeds itself: four artists loosen the familiar from within. Mateo Cabrera, KAMIJO Fumiho, SUZUKI Yuya and TSAO, Chang-Hung. About The Everyday, Afloat — When the Everyday Exceeds Itself Some things are hard to see not because they are distant, but because they are too close. The streets we pass daily, a leaf that keeps reappearing, a symbol so familiar it has become nearly transparent: they do not disappear, they simply recede into the background of life. "The Everyday, Afloat" begins from this quiet condition. Drawing on Georges Perec's attention to the spaces of daily life, the exhibition understands the ordinary not as emptiness, but as something built from countless small differences, shifts in position, repetitions and relationships. "Afloat" does not point to a world far from reality. It is a slight disturbance within reality itself, in which things that had sunk into habit, function and fixed meaning rise again to the surface. Nothing changes its identity or leaves its place, yet its relationship to the surrounding world begins to loosen. To "exceed" is not to move from the familiar to the strange, but for things to remain themselves while revealing what had gone unnoticed. SUZUKI Yuya treats the city as a system that continuously leaves traces. He extracts residues and in-between zones, such as those between public and private, artificial and natural, use and abandonment, and turns them into sign-like forms, reconstructing orders that have always existed but have not yet been truly perceived. KAMIJO Fumiho recognizes time through repetition. Carving leaf-like natural forms in wood, she lets each work keep its own irreplaceable variation, so that light, wind, seasons and memory settle into the grain of the material and the labor of the hand. In TSAO, Chang-Hung's paintings, reality matters most at the moment it begins to drift from itself. Drawing images from daily scenes, existing symbols and bodily experience, he shifts their relationships until clear references fall slightly out of focus, opening a gap between reality and psychological projection. Mateo Cabrera rearranges not only things but the way the world is understood. People, animals, plants and objects remain recognizable, yet recombine into a world that is both familiar and not quite possible, leaving viewers suspended between recognition and doubt. The artists do not depict a shared everyday, nor replace the ordinary with the extraordinary. Each loosens the existing world from a different position, so that overlooked relationships gradually come to the surface. The ordinary is not left behind; it becomes, once again, a present that can still be opened. Artists: Mateo Cabrera, KAMIJO Fumiho, SUZUKI Yuya, TSAO, Chang-Hung Mixed media Painting Sculpture
