About The Hendrick Hudson Free Library is pleased to present Traces and Emergence: The Subjective Field in Contemporary Portraiture , a solo exhibition featuring recent works by contemporary artist Shasha Hu. On view from October 4 through October 31, 2026, the exhibition explores the dynamic intersections of identity, memory, and subjective perception in modern portraiture. Moving beyond conventional physical likeness, Shasha Hu’s paintings engage with the portrait as a psychological space and a field of emotional reflection. Through expressive brushwork, vivid gestural mark-making, and nuanced color relationships, Hu captures the intangible layers of human experience—tracing the visible and invisible dimensions of selfhood. The works featured in this exhibition invite viewers to contemplate how contemporary portraiture can serve as a conduit for internal narratives and existential inquiry. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 24, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the 2nd Floor Corridor and Conference Room. The event is free and open to the public, with no prior registration required. About the Artist: Shasha Hu is a contemporary artist whose practice focuses on expressive portraiture and abstract figuration. Exploring themes of psychological depth, human connection, and subjective experience, Hu's work has been exhibited across diverse cultural and public art spaces. Read more Toggle Painting
