Smith is a British painter and printmaker renowned for his mastery of wood engraving and printmaking. He studied Fine Art at Birmingham Polytechnic, graduating with a BA (Hons) in 1969, before completing a PGCE in Art Education and later an MA in Printmaking at Wimbledon School of Art. A Fellow of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE) and a member of the Society of Wood Engravers, Smith has exhibited extensively in the UK and internationally. His works are held in major public collections, including Tate Britain, the British Museum, the Ashmolean Museum, the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the Heilongjiang Museum of Printmaking in China. Working from his studio at the St Bride Foundation in London, Smith combines traditional printmaking techniques with a contemporary artistic vision.
