About event

A fully immersive art experience in a custom-built 35,000 sq ft labyrinth at a secret London location. Inspired by Japanese monks, dancers guide you on a 3.5-hour path to enlightenment. About The Waldorf Project returns with Chapter Five: KAIHOGYO, its most ambitious work to date. This is a fully immersive art experience in a custom-built 35,000 sq ft labyrinth at a secret London location, designed to guide you towards an elevated state of consciousness. Angel Islington tube station is the meeting point only. Please arrive there by 6pm for a 6.30pm start: the venue is a 15-minute walk away, and the secret address will be sent to you two days in advance. Each night, just 40 participants set out on a three-and-a-half-hour journey. A team of dancers acts as your guides and teachers, leading the group through a sequence of disorientating environments of light, sound, scent, movement and touch. They stay with you throughout, provoking emotional and physical responses while keeping you safe at every stage. The journey builds to a powerful finale in which the whole group moves as one, aiming for a transcendental “flow state”. KAIHOGYO is inspired by the Tendai Buddhist monks of Mount Hiei in Japan, who undertake a 1,000-day walking pilgrimage in pursuit of enlightenment. Founder Sean Rogg has spent seven years researching how to reach these states without drugs, and has distilled the monks’ journey into a moving meditation shared between strangers. THE RULES No talking, no phones, no watches, no jewellery and no perfume. Please bring as few possessions as possible. On arrival you will change into a Waldorf Project uniform in communal changing areas. Latecomers will not be admitted. PLEASE READ BEFORE BOOKING This is an intense physical and sensory experience and it is not for the faint-hearted. Please do not attend if you suffer from claustrophobia, fear of the dark or fear of being touched, or if you have asthma or light-sensitive epilepsy. It is not suitable for pregnant women. Due to the physical nature of the experience, we cannot accommodate participants wearing casts or using wheelchairs, walking sticks or other mobility aids. Strictly 18+.
