RSVPDiscover Wild Lives, a free solo exhibition by Oldham wildlife artist Anne Bardsley at Gallery Oldham, celebrating wildlife, personality and conservation from 5th September–7th November 2026. About Wild Lives is my celebration of the animals we share our planet with, the curious ones, the grumpy ones, and of course the posers. Animals reveal their character and personalities in the smallest moments, and every one of my paintings begins with a moment that made me stop, smile and pay attention. I take my own reference photos in conservation-focused zoos and wildlife parks, where I spend time watching and waiting for those little moments of personality to appear. Sometimes I’m rewarded with a dramatic pose, other times I’m met with a suspicious stare or the feeling that the animal is judging my life choices. Those are often the moments that make the best paintings. This exhibition features acrylics, oils and mixed media paintings. Some pieces are bold and playful, bursting with colour and movement, while others are quieter and more thoughtful, focusing on the softer side of wildlife. Many of the animals featured are endangered species. Behind the colour and personality is a reminder that many of these animals are vulnerable and deserve to be seen, appreciated, and protected. If you leave with a smile thanks to a cheeky expression, or an animal that looks completely unimpressed by your presence, then I'll feel like I've done my job.
