With Each Look

Lower Slopes Gallery launches with pop-up exhibition, 'With Each Look', in Islington while renovations continue at its permanent home in Highgate. About Lower Slopes' opening exhibition serves as an introduction and an invitation. Bringing together many of the artists we'll be presenting in our upcoming programme, it is a statement of intent and a proposition to the viewer: look again for a deeper encounter. While impactful at first glance, the works on display do not reveal themselves fully. They reward further attention: a closer look, a shift in perspective, a peek inside. As we move through the exhibition, our gaze is unsettled. At times we assume the role of voyeur, while the subjects are distracted or have their backs turned; at others, we feel stared down, as if the works are watching us.
