RSVPGet your imagination going: a creative workshop in a gallery, using oil pastels to draw directly from a diorama of animals in a landscape. Workshop led by fine artist Kate Stephens. About You will be introduced to oil pastel techniques, including blending, cross-hatching, sgraffito and impasto as you draw from 3D miniature landscapes created by artist Kate Stephens. There will be several dioramas to choose from, constructed from natural materials such as seedheads, twigs, fallen bark, and fabric, into which model animals have been placed. Experimenting with these oil pastel techniques and different viewpoints, you’ll be encouraged to use marks, colour, and scale to create different interpretations of the landscape and animals. There will be a range of objects available if you wish to make changes to the scene you're drawing. Relevant examples of works by well-known artists will be available for reference and inspiration. These will include pastoral landscapes by Gainsborough who recreated miniature landscapes in his studio using coal, cork and even broccoli florets; and dramatic scenes by Delacroix. Kate Stephens trained in Fine Art at Staffordshire University and the Slade School of Art, London. She has a studio just along the river at Thames-Side Studios and runs monthly workshops in Woolwich Arsenal. All materials will be provided Relaxed and supportive environment No experience necessary Maximum 5 participants Age 18+ A glass of Prosecco or soft drink is included Price £40 + booking fee.
